Big Kitty – Little Kitty

I was napping in the back seat of the open-top Safari van enjoying the warm spring sun. I don’t know how long the van was parked, but an eerie sound of silence (sounds like a title of a song) prevailed. The clicking sounds of cameras surpassed whisperings. Still, in the prone position, I shook the sleep from my eyes and looked for movements or danger. I initially thought people were gazing at how cute I was sleeping but realized they were looking at something else.

“Okay, Okay what is more important than me.” I thought in between a big yawn and a long stretch.

Suddenly, I heard a loud demonic roar. It sounded like it was next to me! I instinctively got up to investigate. This curiosity kills the cat is a pain in my tail and so dangerous.

I put my paws up on the rail and looked out. There it was my majestic relative. How did I evolve from that to this? How could that be? Although he smelled like a cat, he did have a musty Savannah odor that was not becoming of any King of beasts. But I disregarded the scent (which I kinda liked) and only concentrated on his eyes.

It almost matched my color eyes, but it had a glaze suggesting he knew he was a big dude but with a calmness of fearing no one in, Kenya, Africa. I continued to watch focusing on an African lion walking around. I now realized why no one was paying attention to me!

Big Kitty was huge! His paws were bigger than my face. What caught my attention was his slow gaze and his majestic main. There was no way I would run over to confront him or get his autograph. At home, I’m the biggest cute kitty there is and I get all the pampering from my owners, but this Big Kitty is beyond belief.

I snuggled next to Mr. C and made sure he knew where I was in case of an immediate evacuation. Ms. Mar raised her camera and shot in burst mode. About 25 yards, Big Kitty walked toward his kids…what do you call his kids,-Kittens? I need to do a Google search on that so I don’t sound stupid to my friends

Eventually, the lion walked away and his cubs followed nipping at his waving tail. One got close to his private parts and received a swat which caused the little guy to tumble with a tiny squeak. What a cute sound from a cute guy (or girl). I thought his squeak was as manly as my meows.

As Big Kitty walked towards a high point in the landscape. I noted mommy Big Kitty was near to usher her kitties away from Big Kitty as he grew impatient and annoyed with his kid’s playtime. They ran around in all directions, screaming and yelling. I just sat there until it was safe and then calmly walked back to my napping quarters. That was an amazing sight and how I quickly calmed down after a few moments. These cats feel familiar and they act like my friends at home. They play hunting games and stay close to mom in case they get hungry.

Although I may not have been the bravest kitty out there, I know that I am the smartest! I’m happy that I can now say that I’ve seen a Kenyan, African lion and lived to tell about it.

I continued to watch from my seat as Big Kitty sauntered away and his kids followed him. It was so amazing to see such a big lion up close and personal! I may not have been the bravest kitty out there, but I know that I am the smartest! After all, I was able to figure out how to get back safely to my seat without any trouble. 🙂
