A Cat in Fish Heaven

I need to have talk with Ms. Mar. about dragging me to her future trips. I came with her this time to her home town of Grand Marais, Minn. because of their Fisherman’s Picnic. I was expecting to picnic with Lake Superior FISH. Real fish and not from a can.

I thought I was coming during the summer season but it turns out Minnesota has 5 seasons, fall, winter, spring, summer and road construction. We were here during road construction season. One hour to go 7 miles . . . twice.

When we finally arrived, I checked out the local paper to find out what events I might want to go to with Ms. Mar. A lot of posters centered around fish: Fishburger stands, big fish contest, minnow races, pickled herring eating contest, shrimp boils, fish throw . . . The pickled herring eating contest was high on my list. I thought here might be some leftover herring that needed to be cleaned up. Another one that sounded good to me were minnow races. No one would ever notice if a minnow or two went missing. Might I suggest that Ms. Mar and Mr. C retire here???? I think I could get used to living here.

I boycotted the “cute puppy contest.” I didn’t see anything on the schedule for a “cute kitty contest.” What’s up with that?  Hands down, I know I would have won that one.

Ms. Mar’s sister, Ms. Lor, competed in a log sawing contest. I need help understanding its purpose. I’m wondering if there will be any genetic sharing between both sisters. They ruined a perfectly good scratching post and for what? I don’t get it. Ms. Mar kept yelling “go lumberjill,” while Ms. Lor looked like she was either “spazzing out” or having a violent reaction to her meds. But I must admit that she looked good in her logging chaps.

I can live with the Lumberjill’s activities but rolling on a floating log? That is bordered on being criminally insane. People up here must not have their satellite color tv hooked up properly.

Another insane thing Ms. Mar did was get up at 5:00 a.m. to take photos.  “18 hours of sleep pedigree breed Kitty’s are required to have. LOOK IT UP LADY! Google: “Essential requirements of pedigree cat’s.”  No. 1= sleep.

It was very pretty, but I would have rather stayed curled up in bed a little longer.

Ms. Mar spent a lot of her time with her “OLD” friends reminiscing about the fun things they did many years ago . . . camping trips to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) and Isle Royale, band trips (yes, she was in the band).

But what’s a band? Is it like band-of-brothers? What so great about that? My brothers should be called band of kitty-ots. They will not believe the stories I have when I get home.

Ms. Mar went to her high school reunion events but didn’t take me along.  She thought I would be bored. Duh? But instead, she showed me some of her photos from the event. They were a nice looking group of people. Is that the? No. Is that the nap bell, already? REALLY (just in time).

I kind-of miss my family. I’m looking forward to seeing Mr. C and my kitty-ot brothers.
